Your attitude to dealing with Anxiety

In today’s society we all have a certain amount of stress and anxiety that we must learn to deal with. In fact, a lot of this stress is necessary and part and parcel of living. Dealing with anxiety such as this is part of our daily routine. It might be as simple as worrying about what to make for dinner or stressing over a promotion at work. Most of the time, we can deal with these kinds of concerns without it becoming a major issue.

Occasionally though our concerns turn into anxieties that are significant enough to affect our actual lives. In the main, stress like this is useful as it helps motivate us to take action in our lives. You know your anxiety is a real issue when you are paralysed into inaction and start to avoid certain important facets of your life.

It is not easy to learn how to cope with anxiety if you are continually under duress and are worried about the possibility of having an anxiety attack. A person can actually have panic attacks that are brought on by the anticipation of a a panic attack alone.

A good starting point is to try and sit back and try to figure out if there are any obvious causes for your anxiety. Sometimes the problem is right in front of you, other times it may be something that you will really have to search for. Very ofen, people will repress their feelings so don’t worry if you can’t figure things out immediately.

It may be beneficial to share your problem with a friend or family an you can even start to keep a journal. There is certainly evidence that shows that writing your feelings down and making a note of the circumstances under which they occurred, can certainly help you identify your triggers. Understanding why you are having problems can certainly help put them in perspective.

If your anxiety is caused by a situation that you can remedy, then it is important to start a course of action to rectify that situation. If on the other hand you are dealing with a “what if” or hypothetical situation, and you are simply looking at a worst case scenario, then you must learn to let it go. These hypothetical situations rarely, if ever, come to fruition and as such you should try to let go and concentrate only on the things that you can control in your life.
