st. john's wort and ginkgo biloba seems to work the best for me.
also, DL-phenylalanine, specifically the brand "1 fast 400". rhodiolia rosea works very well for many people, seemed to help me also.

Cystic Acne Treatment And The Trusted Remedies

January 13th, 2009 by admin

Cystic acne treatment is important as it has the tendency of persisting beyond the age of 20 and often leads to permanent scarring. The cysts or nodules are actually the blockages of the oil glands, which burst open forming pus in the surrounding tissue.

Acne is a common skin affliction in the US. 85% of the youth between the ages of 12 and 24 seem to develop acne.

Factors influencing Acne

The growth of bacteria on the skin, over production of keratin and sebum and the inflammatory response are the factors which influence acne. The male hormone Androgen also affects the production of sebum and influences acne.

Cystic Acne

Cystic acne is the large and irritating bumps with pustules often hidden deep under the surface of the skin. They are more painful than the normal zits and are caused due to the shifts of hormones, which results in the over-production of oil in your skin glands.

Eventually, the gland swells and bursts with the sebum hardening into a clump which is too large for escaping through skin pores.

Dermatological Treatments

The process of getting rid of cystic acne requires a lot of time, as the infection waste is not discharged. Most cases of acne are successfully cured with the help of the dermatologist.

A dermatologist should be consulted if you find the acne products available in the markets to be ineffective or if your acne is causing you to be distressed. If you suffer from acne with big and painful bumps or if you are worried by the scars caused by acne, then you need to see a dermatologist immediately.

The medication prescribed by the dermatologist is often a product named Accutane. Accutane sometimes have side-effects that can cause depression in patients.

Isotretinoin, prescribed by the dermatologists is helpful but pregnant women should avoid consuming isotretinoin as it can cause birth defects for the baby to be born.

Another treatment is by injecting each cyst with dilute cortisone solution, which provide fast relief to the inflammations.

You can also opt for acne surgery. It speeds the clearance of acne. The surgery should only be conducted under the guidance of a dermatologist.

If you have severe form of acne covering your body and face, you need treatments immediately. Any ignorance on your part could leave you scarred forever.

Blue and Red Light Therapy

This phototherapy is a new, approved and natural method for treating acne. Blue light destroys acne bacteria and red lights quicken the skins healing process.

Prevention of Acne

Cures are possible in case of cystic acne; however prevention is the best method. A daily multivitamin gives you the essential nutrients your body requires to metabolize oil as it is necessary to counter the hormone shifts by targeting your oil glands.

Acne patients should cleanse their skin twice daily and must not attempt to squeeze or touch the affected parts.

"Modern Medicine" solutions to Bipolar and depression: More harm than good?

January 11th, 2009 by admin

I have been diagnosed with severe major depression and bipolar disorder. When diagnosed, I believed what they told me and I swallowed everything they gave me. I became hooked on prescrip meds and stayed that way for years. During that time I tried suicide and suffered terribly. Every day was torture. I tried a million meds, everything they threw at me.

After years of this, I kicked the meds and I'm back to where I was initially. A few problems, but overall life is good. I've been off meds for about three years now.

I've known many people who have these problems and it seems to me that the diagnosis and meds destroy all the natural coping and leveling mechanisms you've built up until that point to deal with what you have naturally. Everyone Ive known that is heavily drugged on modern medicine's solutions becomes a zombie. Some make their way out and some resign to failure and defeat, lost in the servility of modern medicine's "treatments." Any input?

Absolutely. First may I say congratulations to you for conquering such a difficult task, I know it wasnt easy, and needs to be acknowledged as a victory. Everything you said I agree 100 percent. Drugs is just an enabler. It enables us to be weaker and co dependent. I think that it is ironic that the reason why doctors prescrible pyschotropic drugs is because our minds cant cope. So their initail thought is to give us something that will make our minds numb to what were coping with. How is that helpful? All that really does it mask the root of the problem. I am a firm believer that the physical body is a manifestation of what the emotional body has endured. If we bury our emotions, and try to rid the memories of our past present with drugs, then how are we truly going to be able to recognize what is going on with us emotionally. Sometimes the man must surrender to the darkness in order to find the light. Does it feel horrible yes, but it's better then never finding the light because we dont want to see the darkness. For many years I dealt with a mother who was diagnosed with everything under the sun and was admitted to hospital after hospital. Doses of lithium, prozac, you name it, and none it helped. Nothing helped until my mother was ready to face some disturbing issues in her life and the choices that she made that caused these disturbing issues. Only when we see the truth and accept the responsibilty of that are we truly freed from the fear of the darkness, and then we find the light. My mother has been off of the drugs for 8 years now, and still has her bad days but with faith in herself and not the drugs she finds a way to cope

Natural (homeopathic?) treatments for feeling sad, tired, hopeless?

January 9th, 2009 by admin

I am purposely avoiding using the word "depression" because I don't think being diagnosed and "put on meds" is the answer for me.

About six months ago one of my dearest cousins died in a paragliding accident. I had to stop seeing my therapist, because she felt I should be in couples therapy with my husband, and she knew he would not want to pay for both. He always complained about the cost of my therapist, and about the chore of submitting her invoices to our health ins. for reimbursement. We only went to couples therapy once b/cos he complained about the trouble & cost of getting a babysitter so that we could go, as well as the time he felt he could be spending "getting things done".

Now another dear cousin has died unexpectedly and I'm not dealing well. I feel lonely even when I'm with people, and lately I'm avoiding social events because I feel like sleeping. I hug my kids a lot and keep smiling at work, I'm working out when I can, but I need to get out of this funk…

Depression Medication >RESISTANT< for someone I know who really needs help!!?

January 7th, 2009 by admin

He’s been dealing with depression for nearly 15 years now. He’s been through 6 drugs and at least 7 stages. The first time he was medicated, he felt MUCH better. Fast forward to a few years, the effects of the drug were lessening. He switched to another drug. Same thing happens after a few years. New drug again (Effexor). Same thing happens but this time, they increase the dosage by a little and add Eskalith to help boost the effects. After a while it’s no use. He switches to another drug and now it’s wearing off again.

It’s like he’s medication resistant!!!! He’s tried nearly every natural form of treatment that’s known to science! :(

He’s looking for an alternative to ECT and is desperate. I feel sad that I can’t help him…

Has anyone heard of Tetracyclic Remeron? If any of you have tried it, can you tell me your experience!

Please! Thank you to all who want to help!
I'm sorry I couldn't get back earlier to add more details.

Yes, the medications are prescribed by doctors.
Thanks gracie & someone, I'll make sure to tell him that.

Although the medicine prescribed to him usually worked and he felt really great after each time. A few years go by and the effects lessen even though the dosage is the same.

Could he have something other than depression? For example I thought I have been suffering for depression for the past 15 years as well. Always trying one medication after another. Finally a psychiatrist as diagnosed me with ADD. I would have never thought of ADD because I thought it was just for children. After reading about it I realise I have probably had this my entire life. The symptoms of ADD are much like depression. I’m not sure if your friend as thought of this or not but it might be worth a mention. I feel much better now that I’m taking medication for ADD.
