My wife is currently in rehab for alcohol, bulimia, and depression.?

January 13th, 2009 by admin

My wife is currently in rehab for alcohol, bulimia, and depression. She has been having problems for years and I finally told her if she doesn’t get help and stop, that I was going to get a divorce. She has now been there for 4 days and I still have no idea what’s going on? I know she’s in detox, but they haven’t told me how long she will be in there. Does anyone know how long someone should be in rehab with these problems? I think she should stay there for at least 90 days, but she seems to think she can get out in a couple weeks. ??????

An alcoholic is in rehab for life, dude.

If someone suffers from minor depression should they drink alcohol?

January 11th, 2009 by admin

Probably not.

If you're depressed it's easy to get in the habit of drowning your sorrows in either alcohol or overworking. Addiction is more common among depressed people.

Alcohol can also have adverse effects on people taking medication for depression.

If someone suffers from minor depression should they drink alcohol?

Only if they want to exagerate it further! However, a limited amount of alcohol when you are feely happy, and surrounded by happy friends, can elevate mood. Alcohol should not be used with antidepressants at all -it can make you have very depressive thoughts.

Cymbalta and Naltrexone given for alcohol dependence and depression.?

January 7th, 2009 by admin

I had weened down to 5 beers a day and had my anxiety/depression pretty much under control. My wife had decided that that was too much alcohol and had me goto a psych doctor that have given me Cymbalta and Naltrexone. I have been off alcohol for more that a week before starting this mix. Now I can barely muster enough energy to get out of bed am getting more depressed about not being able to function. I'm starting to think the no drugs and a little bit of alcohol to maintain anxiety was a better mix. Any input?

Go back to the doctor and explain how you are feeling. Adjustments in dose or timing can help, or you might need something different.

depression and drinking alcohol??

January 5th, 2009 by admin

i have suffered from depression in the past and recently my depression has come back. i drink quite regularly so decided to give up drinking and feel so much better( also been prescribed low dosage of anti depressants but they take a while to work so i know thats not the reason i feel better).
would just like to hear from anyone who knows about the effects of alcohol on depressive people, whats the worst type of alcohol( i drink wine). should i not drink at all??? any information or anyone with same experiences would love to hear your comments. thanks x

When you are depressed and drink or use drugs it becomes a form of self-medication. You become dependent on it without realizing it to feel differently than your depressed self and so lose what other coping abilities you have. This is a really generalized explanation but basically your “happy chemicals” don’t come out on their own any more as they have become used to being brought on or supplanted by alcohol/drugs. Alcohol is actually a depressant itself so it will make you feel even worse as it slows down the production of everything. No one can tell you if you should or shouldn’t drink but in my experience drinking/drugs is never a good idea unless I’m on an even keel already, don’t start out depressed and make it worse. Just be aware that it can worsen depression so if you are struggling with that use your judgment.
