Common Types of Depression

Depression is complex. Depression can fester and get worse over a long period of time without being noticed . It’s known that some 15 million people in America will be impacted by some type of depression each year.  Unfortunately fewer than 1/3 of these people will look for help for thier depression.  In many cases the afflicted do not even realize that they are ill.  It is normal in this day in age to fall prey to the stress that rules our lives. It has become harder and harder to deal with the every day obstacles of life.  Hand to mouth survival is common.  Trouble in the economy has made it more difficult than ever to keep a good job.  Depression stems from stress.

There are many different types of depression.  Many of the labels are similar in meaning. There is mental depression, medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression.  Late stages of the disease are called severe depression.  Depression is brought on by many associating factors.  One school of thought holds that it’s due to chemical imbalances, simple biology.  DNA also carries depression.  Those with family histories of depression are at risk.

Common factors can lead to different types of depression.  Depression is often the result of substance abuse.  Rather it is alcohol or drug abuse, both has shown evidence to depression.  The death of a family member can increase the chance for depression.  Mental depression has taken a bad rap down through history.  Prior to mental illness being recognized as a disease it was considered by many to be a personal defect.  There was very little treatment offered.  Every stage of depression has its ill affects.  That’s why early detection is vital to treatment.

When it has become severe depression treatment is needed ASAP.  At this stage suicide is often the result.  The opportunities for help have passed because the cries for help haven’t been heard.   Treatments include a combination of talk therapy and prescription drugs.  Also available are support groups that can help.  You can also find many natural herbal medications that have been proven effective in clinical studies.  People who suffer from any type of depression have options.  Seek medical help if you or anyone you know shows signs of depression.
